Women's Nines Festival | Preview

Huddersfield Giants Women will travel to Victoria Park, Warrington for the Women’s Nines Festival, featuring in the 1:30-4pm slot.

Lori Halloran’s side will feature in Group 4 with Wigan Warriors, Salford Red Devils and London Broncos in the Afternoon slot of the event.

Wigan, last year’s finalists, will be looking to put their 21-8 defeat behind them & rectify the result.

The Giants have faced Northern Championship’s Salford, beating them 24-14 in a 5-try run.

Reigning Southern Championship victors London are entering their 3rd year in the competition following success in their regional tournament.

Play will run from 10:30am to 4pm with entry on the day free and much like last year’s event, the occasion will have a festival feel.

The Giants will be playing in the afternoon slot with the following schedule:

1:30pm - Wigan Warriors vs Huddersfield Giants - Pitch 2

2:45pm - Salford Red Devils vs Huddersfield Giants - Pitch 2

3:35pm - Huddersfield Giants vs London Broncos - Pitch 2

The progression format to the Final’s Day remains the same, the winner from each group will continue with an additional two teams.

How these two teams will be selected on the criteria of the two highest-ranked teams in regard to competition points.

  • If 2 or more teams are on the same competition points, we will go with the teams with the greatest points difference.
  • If 2 or more teams have the same points difference, we will go off the points margin with the top-placed team.
  • If 2 or more teams have the same point margin, we will go of tries scored.
  • If we still can’t find 2 teams, with a difference, we will flip a coin.

RFL Head of Development, Tom Brindle, explains:

“We’re really excited to bring the Women’s Nines back to Victoria Park - Nines is an exciting spectacle, and we’ll see lots of fantastic players showcasing their skills on the day.

“As we saw last year through teams like Wigan Warriors and Cardiff Demons, this format can be extremely competitive and is a great opportunity for younger players to introduce themselves, so I would urge fans to come down and experience it for themselves.

There will be a real festival feel once again this year, so it should be a great day.”
